A Song to Sing
Psalms 103 is a song written by David.
103:3-4 sings out:
"Who forgives all your sins...Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies"
Crowns means surround
Loving kindness means goodness, kindness and faithfulness
Tender mercies means womb
This scripture is amazing!
Did you catch that? Tender mercies means womb.
David is singing about the Lord forgiving him and redeeming his life from destruction. David knew his soul needed a song, a song of remembrance telling of God's goodness toward him! David was an adulterer and a murderer...He understood His desperate need for God's forgiveness and mercy!
As I read David's song, his words paint such a beautiful picture in my mind...
David is singing of how the Lord forgave him and surrounded him with His goodness, His kindness and His faithfulness; The Lord's tender mercies were like a womb.
Just as God designed a woman's womb to be the perfect place for a baby to be conceived and grown, He surrounds us with everything good, kind and faithful in Himself.
Just like for David, the Lord's tender mercies are like a womb for us!
In God's loving kindness toward us He sent us Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life. He came to us in Mary's womb. There His life began on earth and it ended on a cross, given and poured out for all mankind...
"For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted." (Hebrews 2:18)
"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." (Hebrews 4:15-16)
Because He understands our frailty as human beings, He offers us tender mercies, a spiritual womb where we can grow! He ALONE has lived a perfect and sinless life on earth. He knows our deep need for Him and for His loving kindness to surround us!
Just like David, I FAIL, I FALL, I SIN...
But I am not consumed! I can sing David's song and I am filled with joy at the remembrance of God's goodness!
"This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope, through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not ."(Lamentations 3:22)
Compassions here is the same word as tender mercies...it means womb.
We are not consumed when we fail, when we fall, when we sin because He forgives us! We can draw near to God's throne and receive the mercy and grace we need to help us in time of need!
David began his song in Psalms 103:1 with:
"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me , bless his holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits..."
Benefits means action or work
"And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns." (Philippians 1:6)
His tender mercies and compassions surround us like a womb and provide a safe haven for us to grow in Him, to be nourished by Him and to gain strength through Him. He continues to grow us and work in us to make us more like Him!
May my song forever be of His goodness, kindness and faithfulness toward me!
Bless the Lord O my soul...
Blessings,
Amy
